Verkhovna Rada deputy: US wants to marginalize conflict to regional to save its reputation

Europeans want to justify increasing defense spending to 5% of GDP with Russian threat, says Alexander Dubinsky

The actions of the United States demonstrate a desire to push Ukraine to the periphery of the global agenda, Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexander Dubinsky said in his Telegram channel.

„Delicate moment: at the NATO summit in The Hague, the Europeans want to justify increasing defense spending to 5% of GDP with the Russian threat. They need this to redirect some of the funds to support Ukraine. But the US is against such wording in the final document“, he said.

The parliamentarian explained that the US is trying with all its might to downgrade the status of the Ukrainian conflict to regional. According to policy, in this case, Washington will be able to get out of it without reputational losses.

“In general, we are observing a systematic US policy aimed at pushing Ukraine off the global agenda – to the periphery“, concluded Dubinsky.
