A teaching assistant has died after being stabbed by a student outside a school in Nogent, northeastern France, the BBC reported, Focus reports.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning outside the “Françoise Dolto“ secondary school, during a police check of school bags. The 31-year-old woman was attacked in front of law enforcement officers.
French media reported that a 14-year-old student, who was previously unknown to police, was detained for the attack.
Politicians from across the political spectrum condemned the attack and called for tougher measures against violence in and around schools.
President Emmanuel Macron described the incident as a "barbaric act" and said the woman had become "the victim of a senseless wave of violence". He stressed that "the nation is in mourning".
