Kremlin advisor and head of the Russian team in negotiations with Kiev, Vladimir Medinsky, told the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal that if Ukraine does not agree to Russia's conditions for ending the war, it risks losing more of its territory, BTA reports.

“It is impossible to wage a long war with Russia“, Medinsky said, quoted by Reuters. He drew a parallel with the Great Northern War (1700-1721) between the Swedish Empire and a coalition led by the Russian Empire as evidence of Russia's ability to win in prolonged conflicts.

“We want peace [...] But if Ukraine continues to be guided by the national interests of others, then we will simply be forced to respond“, he also told the American publication.
