Talks between Russia and the United States, aimed at improving relations and removing key “irritants“, are not expected to yield quick results. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, quoted by “Reuters“, BTA reports.
“There are many blockages in bilateral relations. Of course, we can hardly hope for quick successes, but this is exactly the kind of complex and phased work that has already begun and will continue,“ he pointed out, denying that the dialogue has been terminated.
After Donald Trump returned to the White House in January, the two countries began a series of contacts aimed at improving relations, which the Kremlin described as “sub-zero“ during the previous Joe Biden administration.
Both sides recognize that there is significant potential for business and investment in improving relations. Although Trump held four phone calls with President Vladimir Putin, he expressed disappointment with Russia's military actions in Ukraine and the lack of progress towards a peace agreement.
The new Russian ambassador to Washington, Alexander Darchiev, said earlier today that bilateral talks would soon move from Istanbul to Moscow.
“The restoration of Russian-American relations is still far away. "It is being slowed down by the so-called American “deep state“ and the anti-Russian “hawks“ in Congress," Darchiev added.
