The landing of Russian troops on the coast of Odessa in the Odessa region would be suicidal, since Russia does not achieve significant successes on land, without which such a naval operation loses its meaning. This was stated by the spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy Dmytro Pletnchuk, quoted by UNIAN, reports Focus.
Pletnchuk was asked about the likelihood of the Russians undertaking a landing, following the statement of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about Moscow's plans to seize Odessa.
According to the Navy spokesman, at the beginning of the war in 2022 The Russians tried to carry out a similar landing, and then they had significantly more opportunities than now. This attempt failed for a number of reasons, including the need to conduct such operations comprehensively and successfully on land.
“One of the main reasons is the lack of success on the ground front. Such military actions are not independent operations, especially given the complexity of sea landings. Therefore, carrying out a landing on land at the moment would be suicide“, commented Pletnchuk.
He added that Russian forces currently cannot approach the coast of the Odessa region less than 100 nautical miles, where Ukrainian naval missile forces are deployed.
“Therefore, a landing is unlikely to occur. There are at least three serious water obstacles on the way to Odessa, and although yesterday the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that they plan to direct their efforts from the Dnipropetrovsk region to this direction, the situation remains complicated,“ Pletnchuk added.
