Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the possibility of replacing Ukraine's current ambassador to the US, Oksana Markarova, during his phone call with US President Donald Trump on Friday. This was reported by Bloomberg News, citing its sources, News.bg reports.
Among the potential candidates for the post of Kiev's ambassador to Washington are Prime Minister Denys Shmygal, Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanishyna, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Energy Minister German Galushchenko, the agency also points out.
On Saturday, Zelensky described his conversation with Trump as "the best and most productive so far", specifying that "several important issues" were discussed.
The list of candidates was also confirmed by sources of RBC-Ukraine. According to them, Zelensky is motivated to appoint "a person who would be understandable to America". The source explains that these are figures who already have established contacts with American representatives and have shown real results in their work with international partners. According to him, this is key at the current stage of relations between Kiev and Washington.
The decision on a possible replacement comes at a tense moment - US arms supplies to Ukraine have been temporarily frozen while the Pentagon reviews its own stockpiles, Bloomberg notes.
