Russian and Chinese warships will take part in joint patrols in the Asia-Pacific region, Reuters reported, citing the Russian Interfax agency, BTA reported.
"The Russian and Chinese navies will form a new group to carry out joint patrol missions in the Asia-Pacific region," said a statement from the Russian Pacific Fleet, distributed by Interfax.
Reuters notes that Russia and China will have joint patrols after their joint military exercises in the Sea of Japan from August 1 to 5, which included artillery firing, anti-submarine and air defense missions, as well as improving joint search and rescue operations at sea.
During the final stage of the exercises, the Russian large anti-submarine ship "Admiral Tributs" and the corvette "Gromki", together with the Chinese destroyers "Shaoxing" and "Urumqi", conducted live-fire exercises, and the crews practiced searching for and neutralizing an imitation enemy submarine, Interfax reported.
The Pacific Fleet had earlier said that the exercises were defensive in nature and not directed against other countries.
Moscow and Beijing, which signed an agreement on "boundless strategic partnership" shortly before Russia invaded Ukraine, they regularly conducted joint exercises to practice coordination between their armed forces and send a deterrent signal to their opponents, Reuters notes.
