Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva published a video message on the social network "Ex" addressed to his American counterpart Donald Trump, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.

In the video filmed in the park of the presidential residence, the Brazilian head of state says that he "sows food, not violence and hatred". Lula sends his message to Trump against the backdrop of footage showing the Brazilian president planting a vine in the "Alvorada" palace in the capital of Brasilia.

"I hope that one day you can visit the presidential palace to talk and get to know the real Brazil", the Brazilian president said at the same time in his message to Trump.

In early August, the US president imposed import tariffs of up to 50% on many Brazilian goods. Donald Trump justified his decision by arguing that the Brazilian justice system is leading to a "witch hunt". This statement comes in the context of the trial of former President Jair Bolsonaro, accused of an attempted coup against Lula in 2022.

The new tariffs, which are among the highest in the world, affect key Brazilian exports such as coffee, fruit and meat.

The US also imposed sanctions on the judge in charge of the case against Bolsonaro, as well as seven other magistrates from Brazil's Supreme Court.

For his part, Lula expressed his support for the country's Supreme Court and promised to "protect the sovereignty of the Brazilian people".

Jair Bolsonaro will find out what will be his sentence between September 2 and 12.
