One dead, three injured in plane collision over Colorado airport VIDEO

The incident occurred while the small planes were trying to land

One person was killed and three were injured after two small planes collided in midair while trying to land at an airport in the northeastern US state of Colorado, local authorities reported, quoted by the Associated Press and BTA.

The planes collided last night while trying to land at the Fort Morgan airport, the US Federal Aviation Administration reported.

Both planes, each with two people on board, crashed and then caught fire, the Morgan County Sheriff's Office said.

Two people from one plane suffered minor injuries, one of the two in the other plane was taken to a hospital, and the other was pronounced dead at the scene, it added service.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have launched an investigation into the crash.

Fort Morgan is a city of about 12,000 people located about 80 miles northeast of Denver.
