A few minutes ago, at a special event in Milan, Alfa Romeo's latest crossover debuted, with a name that pays homage to the Italian city. The compact model is built on the eCMP2 architecture, which is shared by other Stellantis models, including the Jeep Avenger and Fiat 600. The CMP platform is designed to accommodate both electric and internal combustion powertrains, providing flexibility in the production of different types of cars.
Alfa Romeo is strategically positioning the Milano to take advantage of the growing electric vehicle market and meet the growing demand for small SUVs. In particular, the European market is showing strong interest in compact SUVs. The launch of the Milano follows Alfa Romeo's successful entry into the SUV segment with the launch of the Tonale compact SUV in 2023. The introduction of the Tonale has led to a significant increase in Alfa Romeo's European sales, which saw a remarkable increase of 51% compared to the previous year .
As for the design, it is completely new for the company and differs from previous models. The headlights are C-shaped with daytime running lights divided into several sections, and the taillights follow a similar design. The shape is elegant with a sloping roofline at the rear and hidden door handles. As before, the front is dominated by the so-called shield with the brand logo.
The drive as already mentioned is varied and includes the Ellettrica, Ellettrica Veloce and Ibrida versions. The Milano Ellettrica Veloce is the flagship of the range, equipped with a single 240 hp electric motor. The entry-level Ellettrica generates a more subdued 154 hp. as the lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 54 kWh offers a range of 410 km according to WLTP and supports a charging speed of up to 100 kW. These Alfa Romeo Milano Ibrida with internal combustion engine will appear in 2025 and will have a 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a power of 134 hp, connected to a 48-volt battery, and an electric motor with a power of 28 hp integrated into the six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
The interior features a familiar cockpit with two 10.25-inch displays. However, distinctive Alfa Romeo elements such as the infotainment graphics and the Cannocchiale digital instrument cluster set it apart. Optional Sport Package upgrades include Alcantara-trimmed Sabelt seats, while other trims offer vinyl and Spiga cloth seats along with a leather steering wheel. Alfa Romeo boasts the Ellettrica's 400-litre boot space, accompanied by a handy cable storage compartment under the hood.
Orders will start already at the beginning of this summer, and the price for the basic models, both on electricity and with LPG, will start from 30 thousand euros.
