Mazda's best-seller will soon receive a new generation - spies have spotted a test prototype of the upcoming new product. The third-generation CX-5 is expected to include a hybrid drivetrain and debut later this year as a 2026 model.
The current generation of the Japanese manufacturer's crossover debuted nine years ago, and only now has a test prototype of its successor been spotted for the first time by Carscoops spies on the streets of Los Angeles.
The automaker has confirmed that the crossover will have its own hybrid drivetrain, along with a number of other improvements. Despite the solid camouflage from the photos, experts draw some interesting conclusions.
It can be seen that the car will retain the usual profile of its predecessor, but will be distinguished by fresher design elements. In particular, the crossover has thinner headlights with a curved radiator grille and a relief bumper.
At the rear, the novelty will have a pair of aggressive taillights with graphics similar to those of the CX-60. The massive plastic covering of the square fender arches and the rear bumper is also impressive.
There are no photos of the interior, but it is obvious that the CX-5's interior will also be significantly redesigned. It is known that the upcoming novelty will be equipped with a new hybrid powertrain developed by Mazda engineers.
Unlike the Toyota hybrid that equips the CX-50, the one that will be installed in the new Mazda CX-5 will be a new electrified system built around a more efficient internal combustion engine.
In addition, it is rumored that the automaker will equip the CX-5 with new Skyactiv-Z series engines, which will debut in 2027. There are no details about them yet, but Mazda has promised that they will be more efficient and productive.
