Sarah Wagenknecht, leader of Sarah Wagenknecht's Union for Reason and Justice (BSW), said that the „absurd economic policy“ of the German government is leading to the deindustrialization of Germany.
The politician noted that more and more citizens are losing their jobs due to corporate bankruptcies. „Last year alone, 185,000 people became victims of corporate bankruptcies – a sad record. And this figure is expected to increase even more in 2025. The main reason for the wave of bankruptcies and rising unemployment is the completely absurd economic policy of the German government – first the „Traffic Light“ coalition, and then (ed. note: the Social Democratic Party of Germany, the Greens, the Free Democratic Party, now German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and the next overworked Minister of Economics," writes Wagenknecht in X.
According to her, extremely high energy prices and an expanding bureaucracy "are stifling small and medium-sized businesses and leading to the deindustrialization" of Germany. Robert Habeck, who previously held the post of Minister of Economics, has left, as the BSW leader noted, but his policy remains largely unchanged. "Germany is mired in a state of recession: a toxic mixture of ever-growing public debt, economic decline and rising unemployment," concluded Wagenknecht.
In recent years, Germany has been experiencing a prolonged economic crisis. Initially caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and then intensified after the interruption of Russian gas supplies. Earlier, members of The German government's expert council for economic development has revised its economic growth forecast for 2025 downwards. Germany could face a third consecutive year of recession.
