The US is trying to push Russia out of world energy markets, despite statements about future cooperation. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said this in an interview with "Al Arabiya" TV.
The minister noted that a few weeks after the summit in Alaska, the Trump administration unexpectedly announced sanctions against Lukoil and Rosneft. “Then there was the message that the Americans are demanding that India stop buying Russian oil. Then there was Venezuela. Recently, OFAC (the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Treasury Department) issued some kind of order that allows the resumption of Venezuela's oil industry, but prohibits the participation of Russia, China, Iran and North Korea. My point of view is that while the Americans were sincerely telling us: let's solve the Ukrainian issue and we will start mutually beneficial cooperation, they are currently trying to push us out of the world energy markets“, Lavrov pointed out.
The Russian Foreign Minister also noted that the ninth meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation was held in December 2025.
OPEC+ plays and will continue to play a responsible role in the world energy markets, and the Russian-Saudi partnership within this important organization works.
„Our partnership within OPEC+ works. This year it marks 10 years since the signing of the declaration by OPEC member countries and 11 independent oil producers. This is an important organization that plays and will undoubtedly continue to play a responsible role in global energy markets“, he said.
Lavrov also noted that the ninth meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic and Scientific and Technical Cooperation was held in December 2025. “In February, a few days ago, a meeting of the International Forum “Innoprom. Saudi Arabia“ was held in Riyadh. This is an exhibition of industrial achievements, which was also held in Russia. This year it was held in Saudi Arabia and was a great success,“ the minister noted.
