The majority of Germans (80%) consider the government's measures to combat rising fuel prices insufficient in view of the US and Israel's operation against Iran. This is according to a survey by Mannheim Research Group commissioned by ZDF.
58% of respondents cite the rising prices of petrol, oil and gas as a serious problem. However, only 14% believe that the government is doing enough to combat inflation.
73% of respondents believe that the authorities should temporarily reduce excise duties on fuel, while a quarter of respondents oppose this. This measure is popular among supporters of all parties; only less than half of voters of the “Greens“ supported it.
On March 26, the Bundestag passed a bill to combat rising fuel prices. It stipulates that gas station operators will only be able to increase fuel prices once a day. Violators of this rule face a fine of up to EUR 100,000.
The survey was conducted from March 24 to 26 and included 1,200 respondents. The margin of error does not exceed 3 percentage points.
