The fire that hit the village of Srem in the Topolovgrad region yesterday is now outside the boundaries of the settlement and the danger to people has been eliminated, BTA reported.
This was announced by the deputy regional governor of Haskovo Mitko Petrov. Three houses, farm buildings and six cars were burned down in the fire yesterday.
Due to the potential risk, 25 people from the village were evacuated to the "Holy Trinity" monastery near the nearby village of Ustrem. Today they will most likely return to their homes, Petrov added. Last night a helicopter also joined the firefighting, but today it was redirected to the village of Gornoseltsi in the Ivaylovgrad region. About 10,000 acres are affected - dry grass, bushes and forest, Petrov summarized. The municipality of Topolovgrad is starting to assess the damage from the disaster.
Six teams of firefighters from Haskovo region and four from Yambol region are on the ground near Srem. The military is also ready to join the firefighting effort. The partial state of emergency declared in the municipalities of Topolovgrad and Ivaylovgrad remains in effect, Petrov said.
