A bear was spotted last night on a busy street in Lovech, near the railway station. It is not known how and where the animal appeared, but after a signal was filed, it was taken out of the city with the help of a police patrol. Today, the mayor of Lovech, Stratsimir Petkov, convened the Disaster and Accident Headquarters to identify measures for the safety of citizens, BNT reported.

The bear was spotted last night shortly after 10 p.m. by a group of boys who happened to be passing by on the street.

Elhan Ali: Last night we were with friends on this street, a man stopped and asked us - have you seen a bear recently? We answered him - where? He pointed right here, behind us. We went out, ran and we really saw a bear. It was a big one, medium-sized. There were stray dogs that chased it, it went into the bushes and then came back again.

The appearance of a clip on social networks and a number of signals caused the mayor of Lovech Municipality to convene the Disaster and Accident Headquarters of the municipality today to discuss the situation and identify measures.

Stratsimir Petrov, mayor of Lovech Municipality:
The warning to citizens is that they should not be aggressive towards the animal. For the moment, it has been driven out of the city. If it has found some kind of food base, it is likely to return, but it is not large. If anyone encounters the animal, they should get in their car, drive at a safe distance, not be aggressive and call 112.

Dr. Ivaylo Stankov, director of Zoo-Lovech:
The bear is generally a dangerous animal, but in this case I didn't see anything that would worry us. It entered the city, but if people behave in a certain way, I don't think it could cause any trouble.

The mayor of Lovech has ordered more frequent patrols by the services in the area where the animal was spotted.
