Record holders for markups are cheese, cucumbers, dairy products. There is a 100% markup for cucumbers, even more - the price increases twice between the wholesale price and the one in the retail outlet. There is import of cucumbers, insufficient Bulgarian production, but there is also unfair trade practice along the supply chain. From 1.60 leva. wholesale price, it reaches 3.30 leva in the small retail outlet. This was stated on Nova TV by Violeta Ivanova, deputy director of the Institute for Social and Trade Union Research of the Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions, quoted by novini.bg.
„For dairy products, we have the feeling that it is a manifestation of unfair practice or a tacit agreement to artificially increase the price - a cartel“, she shared.
She gave a striking example of how in a company store of a dairy producer the price of cheese is 14 leva, but this company stocks a large retail outlet and there the product is 24 leva.
„This is a distorted market economy, the behavior is not market; when we have excess profit for certain outlets, an unjustified markup or an unjustified increase in prices”, Ivanova explained.
