The Mayor of Ognyanovo Ivan Izhbehov announced in a Facebook post that he was attacked and beaten by a local hotelier. His post makes it clear that yesterday, at his signal, the Basin Directorate carried out an inspection for the presence of illegal mineral water wells in hotel complexes in the area.
After the inspectors left, the owner of the complex came to Izhbehov and wanted to talk.
"The conversation started quite normally, in a calm tone, and the topic we discussed was my desire to identify all illegal mineral water wells and to stop the practice of some people accumulating profits, to the detriment of the local population. At one point, quite unexpectedly and from behind, I was physically attacked by Valentin Chetrafilov, the owner of the complex. As a result of the blows that were suddenly inflicted on my back, I was knocked to the ground and in a completely defenseless state I received more blows with my hands and feet“, says the injured mayor.
Izhbehov adds that before leaving, leaving him with a bloodied face, the attacker threatened him and stated that if he told anyone about what had happened or if he continued to search for the presence of illegal mineral water wells, he would personally give 200,000 leva to have a murder committed against him.
"The injuries that were inflicted on me - arcades, hematomas, abrasions and others, are documented with a duly issued medical certificate. I am about to file an official complaint with the prosecutor's office and take all legal measures to hold the perpetrator of the act accountable," he added.
The mayor of Ognyanovo appealed to everyone to remain calm and added that he will be at his workplace today and will continue to fulfill his duties as mayor.
