There is currently a very serious garbage crisis, although at first it was denied and explained as a temporary inconvenience. There is a crisis, it is extremely serious and bothers thousands of households in our city and I think that everyone should help solve this crisis - this was commented in the studio of "The Day Begins with Georgi Lyubenov" on BNT by GERB-SDS MP and former mayor of the capital Yordanka Fandakova.
She expressed gratitude to the volunteers who come out every day and help, and not only:
"Gratitude also to the Minister of Justice, who sent manpower, because equipment and manpower are needed to get out of the situation. Mr. Borisov and the government very sincerely offered support and help, because that's what we do - this is our city and we are concerned about it. In a crisis, we all need to unite so that it can be resolved."
As mayor of Sofia, her main task was to prevent crises and she never advertised many of the things she had done:
"The most important activities in the big city and for the mayor are garbage collection, transport, water supply and heat supply. These are existential living conditions and when there are no problems with them, people don't even notice it, they are interested in much more serious things. However, when there is a problem in some of these activities, we see it in the country, we see it in Sofia, it really affects many people. Most of these activities can be shared with the state. Garbage collection is the activity that is the exclusive responsibility of the mayor by law."
She also told Vasil Terziev this when he was about to take office as mayor of Sofia:
"I explained to him that this is a personal responsibility and he should not allow it to be politicized - something that unfortunately I see that he is tempted to do, and that the cleaning procedures are very long and complicated and that they must be announced at least a year before the contract expires," explained Fandakova.
On March 26, the procedure for selecting a contractor was announced, given that the contracts expire in April and May.
"This is absolutely inexplicable to me. I heard excuses that they were late at the Public Procurement Agency - a fact, if they were late by 2 months, but this is not a precedent and some situations should have been foreseen, because of which I included in the contracts the possibility of extending them by 6 months. In the hypothesis that the agency had not been late and had met its 2-week deadline, this means that the procedure should have been announced on April 1 at the earliest, and on April 4, as we understood, the contract expired. This is absolutely inexplicable", said Yordanka Fandakova.
She also added that if there is a mafia, one fights with legal, well-prepared procedures, with a very clear plan and something very mandatory - to have a plan "B" provided. There is no plan "B" here, that is why they react in a crisis and that is why other mistakes can be made.
