„You all heard Boyko Borisov's speech today. Apparently, after he reached retirement age, he finally realized that it was good to raise pensions and to respect the law and the Swiss rule.“ This was stated at a briefing in the National Assembly by the leader of „We continue the change" and deputy from the PG of the PP-DB Assen Vassilev.
„The bad news is that Borisov has only half learned the lesson. The second half of Assen Vassilev's bad budgets was not to raise taxes and social security contributions, and this is absolutely critical if we want business to operate normally," said Vassilev.
He explained that this is the difference between left-wing politics and centrist politics.
„Throughout all the crises we have gone through, we have not allowed ourselves to raise social security contributions“, said Assen Vassilev.
„I understand that it is easier to reach into the pocket of every Bulgarian citizen and take 600 leva per year from each of them, but even though it is more difficult, it is better to stop the money going to the coffers of the various businesses that feed the government and commit corruption“, he said.
„This is what was done by 2021 to 2024. Taxes did not increase, and at the same time there were enough funds for pensions and salaries, but there were no funds for the “piggy banks“, Vassilev pointed out.
He turned to Borisov with the words that if he needs to, it is good for him to sit down, read, question and limit the money to the “piggy banks“, and then there will be no need to raise social security contributions.
“This is how we will finally reach some reasonable budget. After the pressure that came from both society and the political parties in parliament and the opposition, we saw that they corrected some of the wrong parameters. Maternity and minimum wage will still be increased“, the former finance minister pointed out.
“What has been accepted by the Health Fund's supervision is to increase the funds for nurses and young doctors in the worst possible way - once and with a fixed amount, and not as a principle that will continue to apply“, added Vassilev.
