The leader of the DPS-New Beginning Delyan Peevski announced today that he will refer the matter to the Inspectorate of the Supreme Judicial Council after the scandalous decision of the Vratsa District Court. The magistrates released a driver accused of killing a pedestrian and fleeing the scene of the accident on bail of 3,000 leva.

"The trust that the court must create and the justice that the court must provide are incompatible with such actions by magistrates. Therefore, I will signal the Inspectorate of the Supreme Judicial Council to verify the integrity of the panel that issued this decision," is categorical Delyan Peevski, quoted by BTA.

The case was initiated after a request from the District Prosecutor's Office - Vratsa to detain 24-year-old G. R. from Kozloduy. On October 26 of this year, between 4 and 5 a.m., he was driving a "Seat Leon" car on a bypass road in Kozloduy when he hit 18-year-old pedestrian E. V., according to information from the Vratsa District Court.

According to the indictment, the driver violated the Road Traffic Act - he did not reduce speed and did not make an emergency stop. After the accident, he left the scene of the accident, but a few hours later he voluntarily appeared before the authorities.

The Vratsa District Court refused to grant the prosecutor's office's request for the most severe measure of detention. The magistrates accepted that there was no convincing evidence that the accused was aware that he had run over a person on the road and fled in order to hide, the court announced.

The court noted that the accused has a known address and an established identity, did not leave his home after the act, did not try to hide the car or erase traces. He immediately appeared before the investigating authorities, gave detailed explanations and provided full cooperation, including providing blood and urine for chemical analysis.

According to the court, the risk of a new crime can be ensured by temporarily withdrawing his driving license. The magistrates referred to the practice of the European Court of Human Rights, according to which if the dangers can be mitigated with milder measures, the application of the most severe is unjustified.

"The practice of releasing perpetrators of murders in road accidents and the slow administration of justice are particularly cynical and represent a very worrying signal to the relatives of the victims and the society, who expect justice," said Delyan Peevski in a post on the MRF-New Beginning website.

The party leader emphasized that people want justice and legal order, and this is the responsibility of the magistrates, who must implement a fair and impartial administration of justice.

The decision of the Vratsa District Court is immediately enforceable and can be appealed to the Court of Appeal - Sofia within three days, the court informed.
