The Presidential Administration opens its doors to citizens on the Day of the People's Awakeners, the press service of the head of state announced.

The initiative will last from 12:30 to 16:30. President Rumen Radev and Vice President Iliana Yotova will personally receive the first guests of “Dondukov“ 2.

Citizens will have the opportunity to visit the Hall of Coats of Arms and the offices of the President and the Vice President. Especially for the holiday, exhibits carrying the spirit of Bulgarian history and culture will be exhibited in the Presidency. A copy of the first edition of “Key Bulgarian Language“ by Georgi S. Rakovski, provided by the National Museum of History.

Visitors will also be able to view exhibits from the author's exhibition of Senior Assistant Professor Dr. Maria Hristova-Penkova “Codes of Identity – faith, language, people“ from the National Anthropological Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The exhibition is dedicated to 1160 years since the baptism of the Bulgarian people, 1140 years since the ascension of St. Methodius, 1170 years since the Glagolitic script. With the assistance of the National Museum of History and a number of regional museums, five amulets with Glagolitic inscriptions from the 10th-11th centuries will be exhibited.

Exhibits provided by the National Museum of Military History will also be exhibited. The exhibits are thematically linked to the 140th anniversary of the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria with Eastern Rumelia and Serbian-Bulgarian War.

Citizens who wish to visit the institution during the Open Day should keep in mind that they will go through a security check, and bulky luggage is not allowed, the press secretariat explained.

Earlier in the day, a ceremony to raise the national flag of Bulgaria will be held in front of the presidential institution building on the occasion of the Day of the People's Awakeners. The President and Vice President will participate in the ceremony, during which the head of state will accept the uniform of the National Guard unit. Later, the President will deliver a greeting on the occasion of the holiday. He will award honorary diplomas to prominent Bulgarian students with high achievements in education, science, arts and public activity. The young awakeners are nominated by schools and non-profit organizations, the press secretariat informed.

Day of the People's Awakeners

The holiday is dedicated to the work of the writers, educators, fighters for national liberation, who preserved the spiritual values of the nation and its morality over the centuries - Paisii Hilendarski, Joasaph Bdinski, Grigory Tsamblak, Konstantin Kostenechki, Vladislav Grammatik, priest Peyo, Matei Grammatik, St. Ivan Rilski, Neofit Bozveli, the brothers Dimitar and Konstantin Miladinovi, Georgi Stoykov Rakovski, Vasil Levski, Hristo Botev, Ivan Vazov, Stefan Karadzha, Hadji Dimitar, Lyuben Karavelov, Dobri Chintulov and hundreds of other advocates of national consciousness and Bulgarian self-awareness, according to information from the "Reference" department of BTA. For the first time, the Day of the National Awakeners was celebrated in 1909 in Plovdiv.
