The total damage from damaged elements of the urban environment, infrastructure, garbage containers, road signs, and public transport vehicles has been estimated at 120 thousand leva. This was announced by the press center of the Sofia Municipality.
The value of the burned or damaged containers and anti-parking elements after last night's protest is over 80 thousand leva, announced earlier today the director of the Sofia Inspectorate Nikolay Nedelkov. 12 containers for separate collection and over 40 gray containers for household waste were damaged or completely burned. More than 180 delineators that limit the bike lanes, 20 anti-parking pegs and five road signs were removed and damaged.
The assessment of the damage continues. According to Nedelkov, so far, over 20 sq. m of yellow paving stones and about 15 sq. m of sidewalk slabs have been destroyed. An electronic information board at the intersection of Dondukov Blvd. and Dunav St. has also been torn down. 10 concrete elements have been destroyed, two inspection manhole covers have been broken, and 15 street bins and one garden bench have been damaged.
According to data from the “Stolichni elektrotransport“ The damage to the tram windows amounted to about 4 thousand leva. A company car of the Center for Urban Mobility was also damaged.
By 7:30 this morning, all affected areas in the central part of Sofia had been cleaned, the Sofia Municipality also indicated. A protest filled the square in front of the Presidency, the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers last night. Citizens protested against the draft budget for 2026 in Sofia and other cities in the country. The organizers of the protest were from "We continue the change – Democratic Bulgaria" (PP-DB), and the occasion – GERB leader Boyko Borisov's refusal to withdraw the draft budget for next year from parliament. In the late hours, there were also riots in the capital. People with their faces covered threw bottles at the police and knocked over containers on "Al. Dondukov" Blvd. in Sofia. Some of them also broke various objects. The people pulling the containers also had their faces covered. The rumble of fireworks and bombs was heard and smoke bombs were lit.
Earlier today, the Council of Ministers proposed to the National Assembly to adopt a decision to withdraw the Draft Law on the State Budget for 2026.
