District Court – Sliven has issued a verdict, finding two doctors guilty of causing death due to negligent performance of the medical profession.
The defendants in the case are the specialist doctor on duty and a pediatrician.
The doctors were found guilty by the District Court that on the night of September 23 to 24, 2020 in Sliven, while on duty, "in independent complicity and negligent performance of a legally regulated activity, which constitutes a source of increased danger, they caused the death of a minor child", the court's reasoning states.
According to information from the Bulgarian National Radio, incorrectly prescribed treatment and untimely consultation with a specialist led to the fatal end of the child, who was not yet 2 years old at that time. For the crime committed, the court imposed a suspended sentence of six months on each of the defendants, with a three-year probationary period.
The sentence is not final and is subject to appeal and protest before the Court of Appeal - Burgas within 15 days from the date of its issuance.
