The European Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed to NOVA that it has requested the lifting of the immunity of MEP Ilhan Küçük. It is specified that the aim is to investigate allegations of potential fraud unrelated to public procurement, as well as misappropriation of EU funds and corruption. The European Public Prosecutor's Office says that the presumption of innocence applies to Küçük.
Kövesi's office does not say where the investigation is being conducted – whether the European Public Prosecutor's Office in Sofia or in Brussels.
Yesterday, EP President Roberta Metzola announced that the immunity of Ilhan Küçük has been requested. According to unconfirmed information, the investigation was launched after a report was filed against him for improper spending of European funds.
