Prof. Boyan Durankev: The BSP is faced with the dilemma of whether it will exist at all. The party must return to its roots - 1

There is a need for a left. As a bearer of the socialist idea, which is by definition anti-capitalist, the BSP must turn to its roots and present a truly convincing left-wing pro-social and pro-socialist policy. This was said by economist and lecturer at the UNWE and the University of Insurance and Finance, Prof. Boyan Durankev, in the program “Bulgaria, Europe and the World in Focus“ on Radio “Focus“.

The left is currently fragmented and is losing more and more supporters due to its participation in power, he noted. – BSP - United Left“ dived into the trap, liked the cheese and the trap clicked. Now a congress is coming up. It is very likely that all the people who were in the assembly will move to the back rows lines. If they remove the same individuals who are massively disliked by left-wing people due to their participation in the coalition and due to unrealized left-wing policies, the BSP is on its way to becoming a miniature party with 4-6%. The BSP is faced with the dilemma of whether it will exist at all“,“ said Prof. Durankev.

The new leadership of the BSP must declare a much more left-wing and uncompromisingly moral policy, he emphasized. “That is, not to enter into coalitions with systemic parties of the right. Its chance of survival will be more significant than if the old people are counted on to push the party along new paths“, believes Boyan Durankev.

The big question mark at the moment, however, is what President Rumen Radev will propose in his program and what individuals he will include in his team. “This will determine the percentage of those who voted for the new party and the percentage of those who voted in general voters“, he added.

Bulgaria needs a radical change in tax policy, fiscal policy, budget planning and the role of the state in governance, the economist added.
