The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria has expressed growing concern over the actions of the regime in Iran, including the attacks on civilian objects on the territory of partner countries in the Gulf region.

The ministry's position states that "every effort has been made to convince Iran that the international community cannot allow the development of its nuclear program, as well as its disturbing missile production."

The ministry notes that instead of showing restraint, Tehran is "expanding the scope of the dangerous military escalation for which it is responsible."

The Bulgarian side insists that Iran immediately ceases its actions and creates conditions for the resumption of dialogue.

„We insist that Iran cease "these actions, by fulfilling the conditions that would open up the possibility of resuming dialogue and reaching a solution in accordance with the expectations of the international community and the democratic aspirations of the Iranian people," the position also says.

Yesterday, the ministry announced that in connection with the military escalation between Israel and Iran, it is monitoring the situation on a 24-hour basis. A Crisis Headquarters has been formed on the instructions of Minister Neynsky. The ministry maintains constant contact with all Bulgarian diplomatic missions in the region, as well as with its partners and allies, the statement says.

Our main priority is the security of Bulgarian citizens, the MFA's position on the situation in the Middle East region, also distributed yesterday by the ministry, said.

Earlier on Saturday, caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov convened a meeting of the Security Council. After the meeting, representatives of the caretaker government stated that Bulgaria is not a direct target for Iran and there is no direct military threat to the country.

Approximately 11,400 Bulgarian citizens and hundreds of our tourists are stranded in the Middle East, said Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Nadezhda Neynski after the end of the Security Council meeting.

The presidential institution is following the development of the situation in the Middle East with concern and alarm. We join the international efforts to end the hostilities and return to the negotiating table, as well as the calls for an urgent convening of the UN Security Council, the press secretariat of the head of state announced.
