Zarkov from Shipka: There is no force capable of snatching March 3rd from the calendar and from the grateful memory of the Bulgarian people - 1

„March 3rd is an eternal and unshakable date in Bulgarian history. There is no force capable of snatching March 3rd from the calendar and from the grateful memory of the Bulgarian people.“ This was stated by the Chairman of the National Council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party Krum Zarkov on Mount Shipka, where, together with dozens of socialists, he paid tribute to those who died for the freedom of Bulgaria.

He quoted the words of the Apostle of Freedom Vasil Levski that liberation “gives history a new century“.

“March 3rd puts Bulgaria back on the world map. March 3rd launches Bulgaria into the modern world. Bulgaria is returning to where it originally belonged.“, he also said.

In his words, San Stefano is the apotheosis of the frantic efforts of the Bulgarian people to see their Fatherland free and the triumph of the European intellectual elite, which rises in support of the Bulgarian people.

„There is an incredible fact in world history. And this is the Russo-Turkish War of Liberation. The moment when one people chose to sacrifice themselves for the freedom of another. A war that began with the resolution of Emperor Alexander II on the letter of Exarch Anthim I – “Liberate Bulgaria!“, emphasized the BSP chairman.

According to him, the claims that Russia pursued its own interests during this war in no way belittle its results - the freedom of the Bulgarians after five centuries of Turkish slavery.

“The efforts to replace March 3 with another “more suitable“ date are meaningless. Without Liberation, there is neither Unification nor Independence“, Zarkov is categorical.
