The Prosecutor's Office broke the law and did not investigate the death of the two dogs in the Petrohan case - 1

A little over a month ago we filed a report with the prosecutor's office regarding the death of the dogs found in the burned-down building in the area of the former "Petrohan" chalet.

According to publicly available media data, two dogs died in the fire there.

This was written on "Facebook" by the non-governmental organization "SAY."

Following the report filed by "SAY," the Montana District Prosecutor's Office informed us that the report had been sent to the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office under its jurisdiction and had been included in the ongoing pre-trial proceedings in the case.

This means that the issue of the dogs' deaths will be considered within the framework of the main investigation into the case. The advantage is that the facts are examined in the general context of the events, but there is also a risk that the topic of animals will remain in the background among other serious crimes.

In order to minimize this risk, we sent a follow-up letter to the prosecutor's office with specific questions - has a veterinary medical examination been carried out, has the cause of the dogs' death been established, and has a legal assessment been made for a possible crime under Art. 325b of the Criminal Code (causing the death of an animal with particular cruelty).

Crimes against animals are a separate section in the Criminal Code and should be investigated as such.

The “Petrohan“ case caused a strong public response and continues to raise serious questions. Therefore, we believe that clarifying all the circumstances - including those regarding the animals - is a matter of legality and public interest.

We will continue to monitor the development of the case.

We are awaiting a response from the prosecutor's office, KAZHI states.
