Ivan Anchev: Russia's invasion of Ukraine brought NATO out of "brain death" - 1

"NATO is increasingly consolidated, more than ever before. Russia's aggression against Ukraine brought the organization out of a state that many defined as "brain death". In the current state, it has a clear vision for its security environment, a clear vision of what it should be in order for the European continent to become a safer place for people.

This was said by the co-chair of the Atlantic Council of Bulgaria Ivan Anchev in the studio of "Denyat ON AIR".

According to him, the meeting confirmed the importance of NATO's southeastern flank.

"Conclusions should also be drawn about what comes next. Bulgarian Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev should be congratulated for the excellent speech he delivered. Everyone who spoke at the opening of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly clearly showed that Putin's idea will not happen. "Undoubtedly, no one wants NATO to be involved in the conflict, because this portends dangerous times," Anchev added to Bulgaria ON AIR.

He believes that Radev's message that every country that participates with assistance in NATO is participating in the conflict in one form or another is dangerous.

"It can be used by NATO's ill-wishers. Second - in itself it does not correspond to the truth, because what countries like the USA, Great Britain, which are guarantors, are doing are activities that guarantee the security of Ukraine", commented the co-chair of the Atlantic Council of Bulgaria.

Asked whether the Bulgarian head of state intentionally did not meet with Jens Stoltenberg, he replied: "In diplomatic jargon there is something called diplomatic illness - when you do not want to attend an event, you say: "I suddenly fell ill, please excuse me". This is not about illness, we wish the Bulgarian president good health. But it cannot be said that events cannot change by a day or two so that the Bulgarian president can be at such an important event as the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. His absence is intentional, he sought this absence".

"All these statements made by the president have domestic political goals, they are aimed at that segment of Bulgarian society that is anti-NATO speaking. When his mandate ends, he will face directly against people like from "Vazrazhdane", Vanya Grigorova and Maya Manolova," Ivan Anchev is categorical.

He admitted that while Putin is in power, he does not see how the Russian head of state would make a compromise.

"Medvedev scares because this is his role. They must increase the tension in Russian society, that we are almost on the verge of survival. On the other hand, these are the arguments that allow them to continue waging the conflict in Ukraine," the guest added.
