The process of removing the buildings from the site of the future children's hospital has begun, BTA reported. Later today in the “Gorna Banya” Acting Minister of Health, Dr. Galya Kondeva, will start the process of removing the buildings and preparing the ground for the construction of the National Children's Hospital.
The site for the construction of the hospital was chosen after the discussion of five possible plots in Sofia. In May 2023, the then Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Shishkov signed the order approving the detailed layout plan for the future children's hospital.
Today, it is expected to begin the dismantling of dangerous elements from the roof structure and from the facade of the existing building on the plot, and then proceed to its actual demolition. After the demolition, an assignment must be made and the design and actual construction of the new hospital must begin. In addition to the medical facility, on the land, which is nearly 40 decares, it is planned to have a hotel for parents, a commercial part, and an underground parking lot. It is planned that the hospital will have 25 clinical structures.
At the end of December 2023, a team of the European Investment Bank presented a report "Analysis of the needs of a children's hospital in Sofia", prepared within the framework of the European Consulting Center on Investment Issues, at the initiative of the European Commission in partnership with the European Investment bank. The analysis showed that it is necessary to build a multidisciplinary hospital for the treatment of children's diseases of the highest level of competence, providing complex and comprehensive medical care in all pediatric specialties.
At the end of January 2024 “The Children's Hospital Health Investment Company“ EAD - a commercial company with 100% state ownership, signed an agreement with the European Investment Bank to provide free technical assistance. The agreement provides for the preparation of three documents - Structure, scope and capacity of the hospital, which will specify the scope of specialties, therapeutic and surgical structures, diagnostic structures, day hospital, number and type of clinics, etc.; A functional report or the design brief, which will include the number of hospital beds, scope of the emergency department, day hospital, operating and diagnostic rooms, hospital rooms, electrical, heating and ventilation requirements; Range of equipment and furnishings. The deadline for preparing the final report is January 2025.
A few days ago, Minister Kondeva met with representatives of the European Investment Bank and the consulting consortium, which will prepare the package of strategic documents necessary for the construction of the hospital.
