The American coordinator in the fight against global corruption Richard Nephew is coming to Bulgaria. This was announced by the press service of the US State Department, quoted by "Now". The visit will take place during a European tour, which also includes Austria and Slovakia.

Richard Nephew was appointed by President Joe Biden in July 2022 to coordinate the fight against corruption in all aspects of US diplomacy and foreign aid.

From June 10 to 12 in the Austrian capital of Vienna, Coordinator Nephew will chair the 15th meeting of the Group for Verification of the Implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption and the joint meeting of the Working Group on Asset Recovery and the Working Group on International Cooperation.< /p>

The two meetings will be the first of technical working groups within the framework of the US presidency of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention against Corruption, the press service of the State Department indicates. He will also meet with representatives of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, as well as representatives of other member states and civil society.

On June 13, coordinator Nephew will meet in the Slovak capital Bratislava with government representatives, civil society organizations and representatives of the private sector, adds the press service of the US State Department. There he will discuss efforts to fight corruption and explore opportunities for deepening cooperation.

On June 14 in Sofia, Coordinator Nephew will make a keynote speech during a panel discussion at an event organized by the Basel Institute, and his speech will be dedicated to the Blue Dot Network initiative as framework for improving practices in the field of public procurement, the announcement says.

He will also meet with representatives of the private sector, government representatives and civil society organizations to discuss their efforts to engage the private sector in strengthening the rule of law.
