From the beginning in July, the amendment to the law should enter into force, which introduces a ceiling of 15% overprice for three types of the most popular bread in our country – white, type and “Dobrudja“.
Manufacturers will not have a limit on raising the prices of other types of bread.
„As wheat producers, we can hardly comment on the price of bread and the ceiling of the markup. This will probably not reflect on us, because our goods are Bulgarian and we sell at prices that are formed on the international market “, explained Iliya Prodanov, chairman of the National Association of Grain Producers (NAZ) to BTV.
According to him, it is important that this type of measures affect the price and that the final consumer receives bread at normal prices. He hopes that the markup will not affect the bread producers who are part of this chain.
„The price of wheat is currently in a downward trend. If we look at the last two years, its price has fallen by about BGN 250-300 per ton. At the moment, the price on the international markets and here in Bulgaria varies from BGN 330 to BGN 370 per ton”, Iliya Prodanov also said.
He is adamant that the wheat used for the production of bread is Bulgarian. But he emphasized that for grain producers the import of wheat from Ukraine is a problem, because it has captured the markets of Bulgarian grain in Europe and beyond.
Iliyan Prodanov commented on the competitiveness of Bulgarian producers, stressing that the frequent changes in power and in particular the agricultural ministries are a problem, why there is no adequate policy. According to him, the line ministry has become a paying agency. He insisted on having a more adequate attitude towards agriculture in Bulgaria.
