The chaos with the new changes to pass a car through the mandatory annual technical inspection (AMT) continues.

While there is no problem with diesels, as they are measured for smokiness and not carbon dioxide emissions, for gasoline cars the measurement is of CO2, and since July 22 the standards for them have been extremely high and thousands of cars, even those per year -two, can't pass technical health check, shows Telegraph check.

GTP points are aware of the serious mass problem with gasoline cars. And even at the entrance they ask if you have a gasoline engine, warning that there is a problem and countless cars are stopped from moving, precisely because of the increased CO2 requirements.

Inspection of a gasoline car can last about an hour, while previously this was done in at least twice as much time. There is a case of a 2020 petrol model that is immobilized, “failed" of gas measurement.

A car with a technical inspection carried out 1 year ago and costing BGN 45, then marked as Eco category 3, today passed an inspection for the impressive amount of BGN 180, receiving a new sticker and a new Eco category 2. The official price at the specific point is BGN 90, and for cars with gas equipment – 100 BGN.

The paradox is that on a car with a gasoline engine with a gas system, with which it is far more environmentally friendly, the measurement is carried out only when running on gasoline, but not on gas. The same applies to cars with methane systems, which in some EU countries are equated to electric cars.

The most polluting cars – those on diesel, remain completely unaffected by the GTP changes. Diesels without catalysts and particulate filters successfully pass the channels and receive an inspection ticket.
