Lyudmil Rangelov: There is no constitutional obstacle for the current SJC to elect a new chief prosecutor - 1

"There is no constitutional or legal obstacle for the current Supreme Judicial Council to elect a new attorney general, to open the selection procedure and select him. It won't be moral, it won't be pretty, but I think it's in line with the Constitution and the Judiciary Act"=

This is what the lawyer Ludmil Rangelov commented in the studio of "Deniat ON AIR".

One of the reasons for the problems in the field is the bill, which aims to limit the powers of the SJC with an expired mandate to elect the chief prosecutor.

"It does not seem to me a very precisely crafted norm, because this authority is regulated in the Constitution of the SJC and there is no condition whether it is with an expired mandate or not," Rangelov specified for Bulgaria ON AIR.

Rangelov emphasized that the courage needed to start such a procedure in the current political situation is accompanied by "a certain amount of insolence". This is due to the unstable political environment and the difficulties it creates for long-term appointments such as that of the Attorney General.

"Across the country, a number of institutions are just clogged up right now, especially in the judiciary," the lawyer said.

According to him, the election of a new chief prosecutor may drag on for years, especially if political events continue to develop in the current way. At the same time, other key institutions, such as the Commission for Combating Corruption and Confiscation of Illegally Acquired Property (KPCONPI), are also facing important changes that further deepen legal uncertainty and "mess" in the country.
