The National Council of the Political Party “Green Movement” decided that the party will not participate in the elections for the National Assembly on October 27, 2024.
On August 5, the party called on all parties from the democratic political space to create a broad unification around the following goals:
- Guaranteeing the rule of law and upholding the basic principles of the democratic state despite growing populist threats on the extreme left and right political spectrum;
- Increasing civil rights and freedoms and opportunities for civil participation;
- Removal of unnecessary regulators and regulations, transparent public process for selection of representatives in regulatory bodies;
- Urgent economic and administrative steps for full acceptance of Bulgaria in the Schengen area;
- Adoption of all legislative and administrative measures to implement the reforms necessary for the transformation and modernization of Bulgaria's economy in the context of the global climate and biodiversity crises, including the Recovery and Sustainability Plan;
- Increasing social justice, protecting human rights and reducing inequalities;
- Guaranteeing access to clean drinking water, clean air and clean food;
- Categorical actions to end all military conflicts in compliance with international treaties and respect for the territorial sovereignty of independent countries.
Our proposal was responded to by “We continue the change”, “Yes Bulgaria”, “Edinenie”, “European middle class” and “We are coming”. The bilateral and multilateral talks we held in August do not give the party reason to assume the formation of a democratic majority in the next parliament, open to problems and guaranteeing the rights and freedoms of Bulgarian citizens. This renders our participation in these elections pointless.
The lack of significant support from the existing political parties for the idea of a broad political unification in defense of Bulgaria's democratic and European path obliges us to use our limited available resources to create a civil-political entity that will guarantee the European development of Bulgaria and the democratic inclusion of citizens in governance processes.
We call on our sympathizers to vote conscientiously and with preferences for the candidates who have proven in action that they defend the European civilizational and geopolitical choice, the rule of law, individual freedoms, social justice, democratic reforms, the preservation of nature and cultural heritage and adequate policies for adaptation to changes in the environment.
