The official Minister of Justice Maria Pavlova did not would accept an offer to be a candidate for Attorney General.

When asked if she would take advantage of the power to nominate a candidate for chief prosecutor, Minister Maria Pavlova said she would not propose a candidacy. Her considerations are that until now no minister of justice, and especially an official one, has made a nomination for chief prosecutor, president of the Supreme Court or the Supreme Court. He also recalled that over the years there have been comments that “this is a direct intervention of the executive in the judiciary” and calls for this authority to be taken away from the minister.

this became known from her comment to the media before the start of the International Conference "Transnational Investments in a Changing World: Sanctions, Screening and Dispute Resolution", which is being held in Sofia.

„No, thank you. I think it is a right of personal choice and judgement," replied Minister Pavlova when asked if she would accept to be a candidate for chief prosecutor in connection with the renewed procedure for selecting a holder. "I would not nominate someone who is suitable, provided that the law forbids me to support it, as I do not have the right to vote”, Pavlova reasoned.

She recalled that a nomination for chief prosecutor can be made by at least three members of the Prosecution College of the Supreme Judicial Council.

When asked if it would not be good to nominate more than one candidate for chief prosecutor this time, Pavlova indicated that she could not comment on how many candidates there would be and what the members of the Prosecutor's College would decide.

BTA recalls that yesterday the Procurator's College proposed a schedule at its meeting, according to which a chief prosecutor should be elected on January 16. The proposal must be voted on by the Plenum of the SJC in order to be accepted.
