Traffic is intense at the border points with Romania - 1

Bulgarian border police report increased traffic at several key border checkpoints (BCPs) in the country. The checkpoints along the border with Romania are particularly busy, where there is an intense movement of trucks at the exit.

At the "Oryahovo" border crossing, the "Nikopol" border crossing, the "Kardam" border crossing and checkpoint "Durankulak" increased traffic for trucks leaving the country is reported. This creates potential delays for HGV drivers.

Meanwhile, large-scale repairs are being carried out on the Bulgarian section of the Danube bridge near Ruse. As a result, a temporary organization of traffic has been introduced, which significantly limits the throughput of the facility. Traffic is reduced to one lane, regulated by traffic lights.

In order to ease the load at the "Danube Bridge" checkpoint, the authorities recommend that drivers consider alternative routes. Among the proposed options are the "Silistra" checkpoint, the "Kardam" checkpoint. and "Durankulak" checkpoint. Additional options are the checkpoint "Kainardza" and the "Krushari" checkpoint, which, however, have limited working hours - from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day, and do not allow the passage of trucks.

On the southern border, the situation is calmer. Traffic at all border points with Greece is described as normal. However, due to the increased number of Romanian tourists traveling to and from Greece, there is an increased load at the "Kulata" checkpoint. and "Makaza" checkpoint.

In order to avoid potential traffic jams, from the Main Directorate "Border Police" (GDGP) recommend the use of alternative points with lower workload. For those traveling to Thessaloniki, Kavala and the Halkidiki peninsula, the border crossing "Ilinden" is offered. as an alternative to the "Tower" checkpoint. Tourists heading to Xanthi, Komotini and the island of Thassos can pass through the border crossing "Zlatograd" instead of the checkpoint "Makaza". For destinations around Alexandroupolis, the checkpoint "Captain Petko voivoda" is recommended.

It is important to note that through the border points "Makaza" and "Zlatograd" and "Ivaylovgrad" only cars and vans are allowed to pass.

On the western border, the situation is calm. Traffic at all border checkpoints with Serbia and the Republic of North Macedonia is determined to be normal.

However, at the "Gyueshevo" border crossing from August 26, 2024, the implementation of a project related to the construction of the Entry/Exit System of the European Union begins. This will lead to temporary changes in the organization of traffic, with goods vehicles being redirected through the routes for passenger cars. Some difficulties may arise when passing through this point.

No unusual situations were reported at the border with Turkey, with traffic at all border checkpoints considered normal.
