Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov, Chief of Defense Admiral Emil Eftimov, senior officers of the Bulgarian Army, servicemen and colleagues will pay their last respects to Lieutenant Colonel Petko Dimitrov and Captain Vencislav Dunkin, who died in the line of duty on September 13.
This was announced by the Ministry of Defense.
The pilgrimage to the two pilots will take place on September 21, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the area of the air base in Dolna Mitropolia.
Major Petko Dimitrov and Senior Lieutenant Vencislav Dunkin died in the crash of an L-39ZA combat training aircraft near the "Graf Ignatievo" air base. at an airshow dress rehearsal on September 13.
The data from the black box has not yet been read. The reasons for the accident are still being investigated. The three initial hypotheses for the causes are pilot error, technical malfunction, or an incorrectly assigned command.
Major Petko Dimitrov and Senior Lieutenant Vencislav Dunkin were posthumously promoted to military rank.
