1,370 persons who are currently in the territory of prisons and detention centers in the country have the right to vote in the elections on October 27, 2024. This is shown by the data of the Main Directorate “Implementation of Punishments” (GDIN) as of October 23 of this year
In the places of deprivation of liberty, these are the accused and defendants who do not have an effective sentence on the date of holding elections for the National Assembly. In prisons, their number is 765, and in detention centers – 605.
There are a total of 26 electoral sections in prisons and detention centers. In Sofia, there will be three sections – in the prison and in the detention facilities on Blvd. “G. M. Dimitrov“ and on “Mayor Vekilski“ street.
According to the Election Code, a polling station is formed when there are no less than ten voters.
The organization of the elections in places of deprivation of liberty is regulated according to the Electoral Code and Decision of the Central Election Commission.
An order was also issued by the Director General of the State Department of Internal Affairs to ensure order and security in prisons and detention centers throughout the election day.
