A minority government is not a reasonable scenario. This is what Rosen Plevneliev, President of Bulgaria in the period 2012-2017, told bTV.
“The two strong men of the day in Bulgarian politics – Boyko Borisov and Rumen Radev have already positioned themselves. We must pay attention to this upcoming battle, which I call the “general battle”. One has been Prime Minister three times and has good relations with the EU, and the second has a second presidential term, is ambitious and wants to enter the political arena, he explained.
Plevneliev also commented on the possible connection of GERB with DPS-New Beginning of Delyan Peevski. According to him, “any connection in this direct way does not help to better understand the situation we are in”.
He also stated that he never met the leader of DPS-New Beginning.
„If there is no government, Bulgaria will enter a lasting and very severe political crisis. Bulgaria will find itself in a situation of even greater protest and anti-system vote. Naturally, President Radev will have all the cards in his hand to take power”, Plevneliev also commented.
According to him, the political forces should think in this direction, because Boyko Borisov has no chance of forming a minority government.
„I believe that the only possible option is to look for a broad coalition, armed with patience and wisdom in order to reach an agreement. If he wants to play this general battle, which also determines the future of Bulgaria, he must react in a different way, explained the former head of state.
Rosen Plevneliev also thinks that Borisov should invite all the leaders to a meeting, except those of MECH and “Vazrazhdane”.
„I think that Bulgaria can have a government with a program for 30 months, in which five priorities are set. One such program is executable – you enter Schengen and the Eurozone, modernization of the state, the implementation of reforms and a good playing of geopolitical cards, he also said.
