Bulgaria marks unprecedented success in the tourism sector in 2024, according to data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI). For the period January - September, the country welcomed 10.7 million foreign tourists, which represents an increase of 2.5 percent compared to the record year 2019 before the pandemic.
While Romanian citizens continue to be the most numerous among foreign visitors, Bulgaria is successfully expanding its presence on the European tourist market. Tourists from Great Britain, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, Turkey and France show considerable interest.
Revenues from overnight stays in the categorized accommodations reached BGN 2.1 billion for the first nine months of the year, marking a growth of 15.4 percent compared to 2023. A total of 7.5 million tourists stayed in accommodations, an increase of 3.9 percent over the same period in 2023 and 9.4 percent over 2019.
