The caretaker prime minister Dimitar Glavchev will visit the "Kulata" border checkpoint this afternoon. reported the press service of the Council of Ministers, without specifying the reason for his visit, BNR reported.

However, the problem of compromised infrastructure at one of our busiest border crossings is about to be resolved.

The premier will be at "The Tower" at 2:00 p.m., the brief press release reads. Most likely, his visit is related to our country's readiness to enter the Schengen area and land borders.

Meanwhile, it became clear that the Agency "Road Infrastructure" is preparing the public order for the development of a conceptual project and a detailed development plan (PUP) for the expansion of the road route in the area of the point before the border control zone.

This is one of the most problematic sections between the end of the highway "Struma" and the border and customs control area.

Due to the extremely heavy traffic, trucks, and in the summer also cars, wait for hours, and kilometers long queues form on the highway.

Furthermore, in the direction of Sofia, the highway itself has a one-lane route in a section of over a kilometer.

In the dark hours of the day, this creates frequent conditions for road accidents.

The main purpose of the project, for which the public procurement is announced, is to widen the road before the border to two lanes in each direction, separated by a median strip.

It is also planned to separate a local lane for access to the roadside commercial establishments in the direction of the Tower – Sandanski.

A new organization of traffic around the intersection for the village of Kulata is planned, as well as the construction of a special lane for waiting for heavy goods traffic headed to the border crossing.
