< p>For the second week now, I am steadfastly voting against the creation of a governing majority with “Vazrazhdane”, the Bulgarian image of Putinism. I have repeatedly and thoroughly explained my position to my colleagues in the parliamentary group, wrote Daniel Laurer on Facebook, quoted by BTA.
Earlier in the day, the Executive Board of “Continuing the Change“ expelled Laurer from the party and demanded the resignation of Yavor Bozhankov as a member of the parliamentary group because of the vote on the candidacy of Silvi Kirilov for the Speaker of the National Assembly.
In a post titled "The Explanation I Owe" Laurer writes that he does not accept the creation of a governing majority with a “Revival”, because that is the way to the end of our democracy. “It starts with small compromises, he adds - only one speaker of the parliament, only to send 800 teachers to a prosecutor, only one paragraph in one law and then another and another. Finally they come to power and we all wonder how we got there.“
Laurer makes a public commitment to defend his position to the end and adds that he was elected to the parliament with two main tasks: “to fight the cancer of corruption in Bulgaria” and “to defend Bulgaria's place in Europe”. In the publication, the deputy specifies that he voted against the governing majority with "Vazrazhdane" because he believes "that the fight against corruption in the company of a Putinist party will only lead to more Putinist corruption." But not only that, he adds: “I voted this way because when someone talks about camps and prisons, like the "Revival" party, I know that the Jews are often the first. But after us follow all the others who disobey“.
I have read too much history to fall into such a delusion, writes Laurer. I have too many victims in my own family to forget, he concludes.
Deputies did not elect a chairman of the 51st National Assembly in today's, seventh attempt. The nominees for the position were again four, up to a runoff, and this time they reached Raya Nazaryan (GERB-SDS) and Silvi Kirilov ("There is such a people". However, neither of them gathered the necessary number of votes to be elected.
Regarding the decision to exclude the Executive Board of “We continue the change“ party co-chair Kiril Petkov wrote on Facebook that Bozhankov and Laurer were notified days ago “that if their votes are decisive for the election of the chairman and they block it, then we will have no choice but to demand their resignations, because this determines where is Bulgaria moving and is it contrary to the party's beliefs".
