At the moment, the patient is in good condition," commented the head of the Clinic for Hepato-Pancreatic Surgery and Transplantology, Prof. Nikola Vladov. Transplantation was performed by Assoc. Vasil Mihailov from the Clinic for Liver-Pancreatic Surgery and Transplantology.
The donor was transported to the capital by a C-27J Spartan aircraft by a crew on duty at the Vrazhebna airbase. The explantation of the liver was performed on the basis of “St. Ekaterina“ from the head of the First Clinic for Abdominal Surgery of the Academy of Medical Sciences prof. Ivelin Takorov.
Two people got a chance to live in “Alexandrovska“ hospital. The kidneys of a 27-year-old man who suffered brain death in "Sveta Marina" were transplanted late this night in "Alexandrovska". Recipients are a man and a woman with chronic renal failure, selected with the highest percentage of organ compatibility with the donor from a total of six invited for evaluation from the waiting list.
The transplanted man is 50 years old. from the city Veliko Tarnovo, the woman is 51 years old. from the city Plovdiv. Both have been on dialysis for two years. After the intervention, the transplanted patients are recuperating in the Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Clinic of the hospital. Their condition is stable, with very good vital signs.
Doctors from the Cardiac Surgery Clinic of St. Catherine Hospital they transplanted a heart to a 25-year-old man. This became possible after a donor situation realized in “Sveta Marina”. The transplant patient has been on the waiting list for several years because he suffers from severe heart failure. The operation was carried out by a team led by the executive director of “Saint Catherine” prof. Dimitar Petkov. The transplant lasted 7 hours.
