The Minister of Agriculture: Farmers should protect their herds and not buy cheap animals - 1

Categorically, animals will not be killed by the farm in Velingrad, for which there is information that they are sick with the plague. The BFSA and the Ministry of the Interior will take all measures to contain the outbreak. This was said at a briefing by the Minister of Agriculture, Georgi Takhov, quoted by bTV. He urged livestock breeders to protect their herds and not be tempted to buy animals at low prices from neighboring countries.

„When they are offered at lower prices, then there is a suspicion of infection,” said Takhov.

The Minister of Agriculture recalled that the use of a vaccine for this disease on the territory of Bulgaria is not allowed and called on animal breeders to strictly comply with this provision.

The Ministry of the Interior has been committed to safeguarding public order to guarantee the safety of citizens from day one, said Interior Minister Atanas Ilkov.

„We will carry out checks on trucks that we have reason to believe will transport small ruminants to the epicenter of the epidemiological situation and from there to other centers in the territory of the country”, explained Ilkov.

According to him, in the last few days we have been witnessing purposeful provocative actions by individual protesters, targeting the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

„There was a criminal incident last night, which somehow aims to shift the focus. A criminal offense was committed after a scandal broke out between protesters. One of the persons was struck, most likely with a cold weapon, in the chest area. He was immediately given the necessary medical assistance. The perpetrator of this crime has been arrested. He has multiple criminal records. He is not local, but from Sofia”, the interior minister explained.

According to him, this process has started to go beyond its epidemiological form and become too politicized.

„This greatly complicates our work as well, because when this process enters the political nuance, our actions become much more difficult to implement. We will not give in to provocative actions, we will ensure public order”, said Atanas Ilkov.
