Smilov: Without an agreement on regulators and the judiciary, the door will be open for Peevski - 1

The country needs a regular government in view of membership in the eurozone. This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by political scientist and university lecturer Assoc. Prof. Daniel Smilov and confirmed his thesis that it is better for this parliament to form a government than to have 8 consecutive elections:

"Whether this is the best option possible - that is another question. Whether it is an ideal option - we will agree that it is not. It will be a difficult coalition of parties that have repeatedly stated that they will not govern together. With the support of Dogan's MRF, about whom Boyko Borisov had said that there is no good MRF. There is a lot to explain from each of the parties. But the very fact of forming a government is good. I would not give it a very long horizon, but there are urgent things that need to be done. ... The budget must be adopted, the money under the PVU, and governments that do not have parliamentary support would have a harder time making a strategic step".

He called on us not to accept the possible government with a GERB-SDF mandate as already formed, because, "until everything is agreed - nothing is agreed and small stones can overturn the car":

"With regard to the two MRFs, there is a big substantive question and the dropping of the PP-DB from the negotiations is mostly along this line - to what extent the formed government and majority will be open to Delyan Peevski's formation. The PP-DB have a categorical position on this issue - they demand a sanitary cordon. If it turns out that the new governing format is not so strict in insisting on a sanitary cordon, we will have an answer as to why the negotiations with PP-DB failed.

According to Daniel Smilov, if this government is formed with the support of Dogan's MRF, "Borisov will face a big dilemma whether in subsequent decisions - whether to include Peevski and MRF-New Beginning when voting for regulators and voting for positions in the highest bodies of the judiciary, or whether he will keep some politics at a greater distance":

"It is not entirely clear what will happen, because we have not seen an agreement on governance. But if it contains nothing on these issues, Borisov's idea is most likely to keep the door open for Peevski and MRF-NN.

Peevski's sharp stance against this future government even facilitates its creation, he believes.

According to the political scientist, the cabinet being prepared will formally be a minority government of three parties, but if Dogan's MRF accepts the agreement, it will be a coalition of four parties, but "the label will be more special."

For political formations that are opponents, such as GERB-SDS and PP-DB, it is good when one is in government - the other is in opposition, from the point of view of parliamentary logic, Smilov emphasized.
