The project envisages the expansion of the existing first-class road to G20 gauge - a two-lane expressway in each direction, as well as bypasses of settlements. The design speed will be 90 km/h.

The implementation of the project will improve the operational characteristics of the existing road and adjacent facilities. The throughput capacity of the route will be significantly improved and road safety will be increased. The removal of intensive traffic from settlements will reduce noise in them and air pollution. The modernization of the route will improve the socio-economic conditions for life and business in the Burgas region.

The first-class road is a continuation of the future "Black Sea" motorway and the section will provide a better and faster transport connection with the road network of the Republic of Turkey through the "Malko Tarnovo" border checkpoint. The implementation of infrastructure projects will improve the accessibility and connectivity of border regions, which will also stimulate the expansion of cross-border cooperation.
