The Minister of Justice met with representatives of the Norwegian Judicial Administration to secure funding for the future program “Justice“ of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism.
She was with representatives of the Norwegian Judicial Administration, partners of the ministry and in the future program “Justice“ of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism (NFM).
On behalf of the ministry, all institutions in Bulgaria, on my first working day in the new position, I would like to confirm our intention to continue the good cooperation with the Norwegian Judicial Administration, said Minister Georgiev.
He outlined the topics, focusing on the problem of domestic violence and access to justice. “These are some of my priorities as a minister and I appreciate your help in this direction“, emphasized Georgiev.
According to him, one of the reasons for distrust in the judicial system is the slow justice and the problems with ensuring timely assistance from experts in cases, especially those involving traffic accidents. The Minister stated that one of his main tasks is to work on legislative changes that will lead to acceleration of the judicial process.
As another priority, he also highlighted the regular training of Bulgarian judges in terms of human rights protection, in which our Norwegian partners play a key role.
The Minister of Justice noted the significant role of the NFM in the development of the penitentiary system in Bulgaria and the protection of human rights.
For his part, Audun Hognes Berg, Senior Advisor at the Norwegian Judicial Administration, expressed gratitude for the Minister's rapid involvement in the issue and confirmed his readiness for cooperation on priority topics - domestic violence and increasing trust in the judicial system.
A Memorandum of Understanding between Bulgaria and Norway is about to be signed, and the Norwegian government is expected to designate the Norwegian Judicial Administration as a partner of the Ministry of Justice in managing the future program.
