The West has found no evidence that Russian sabotage damaged cables in the Baltic Sea - 1

American and European intelligence agencies have failed to find evidence of Russian involvement in the damage to submarine cables on the bottom of the Baltic Sea, writes The Washington Post, quoted by FOKUS.

According to senior officials from the three countries involved in the investigation, American and European security services are beginning to believe that the damage was the result of accidents, not sabotage.

Officials emphasize that there is no evidence that merchant ships deliberately dragged anchors in the areas of submarine cables on someone's instructions. They note that the evidence points to accidents caused by the inexperience of the crews and inadequate maintenance of the vessels. US officials point to "clear indications" that the damage to the underwater infrastructure was accidental.

A European official also added that there is "counter-evidence" that denies Russian involvement in these incidents.
